TechnoHUB

Progressive technical education

TechnoHUB Woerden is a physical, technical education centre where pupils, students and people with a distance to the labour market can develop their interests and talents for technical professions. In this hub, educational institutions and regional businesses work together in offering 'NextGeneration' education. Albèrt de Goey, board member at TechnoHUB, "With the up-to-date knowledge and equipment we have in-house, we offer schools structured support in their technical education. This way, we bridge the gap between education and the activities of technical companies."

The importance of developing technical talent

Next to more than 180 regional companies, educational institutions, municipalities and the Province of Utrecht provide financial support to TechnoHUB. The collective ambition is to facilitate technical education. Their goal is to develop the technical talents of students early on to reduce the shortage of well-educated technical personnel ultimately. This ambition has not gone unnoticed by Queen Máxima of The Netherlands. Last July, she visited the hub with great interest. During her visit, she spoke with director Marlous Birkhoff, the board and several young people about the progressive education at the center.

Up-to-date knowledge & equipment

Albèrt de Goey: "Technical education at TechnoHUB is broadened and deepened in various ways. Our classes are not only provided by teachers from participating schools, but also by specialists from regional businesses. We have also created four practice areas in our 2,650 m2 climate-neutral building, focused on Mobility & Transport, Installation & Electrical Engineering, Metal and Construction, Living & Interior. These practice areas are equipped with up-to-date equipment and installations, largely constructed by technical companies from the region. After a start-up period, we expect to welcome at least 250 pupils and students per day."
